Shalabham, another heroine-oriented film
Directed by - Suresh Palanchery Produced by - Azeez Kadalundi Music by - Kaithapram Casts - Sudheesh, Ramiya Nambeesan, KPAC Lalitha, Mala Banner - - The film ‘Shalabham’ is a heroine-oriented film, written and directed by Suresh Palanchery. The central character in the film is a young woman suffering from a psychological problem, because of which, she turns into an introvert and isolates herself from those around her. This aspect may be considered as a bold attempt of the film. The film does not restrict itself to remain focused on detailing the young women’s frame of mind and her relationships with others but also dwells on the superstitions prevailing in the village. But, some dialogues seem like sermons.
Meera [Ramia Nambeesan] is a young woman who is ready for marriage, but unfortunately, has not attained puberty. Her mother, Sarada [K.P.A.C Lalitha], stalls marriage proposals owing to the problem.
Both mother and daughter keep the matter under wraps for fear of ridicule and isolation.Meera is attracted to men, especially Hari [Sudheesh], the son of tea-stall owner umaran [Mala Aravindan].But she has this fear of building relationships because of her problems.Meanwhile, some disasters befall the village and the villagers come to know of Meera’s problem. The oracle is approached and he announces that Meera is a bad omen for the village.
What follow in the village and in the life of Meera make the rest of the story.A plus point of the film is the rustic charm of the village captured on camera by M.J Radhakrishnan.Screenplay and dialogues are by Madambu Kunjukuttan. The lyrics and music are by Kaithapram.
The cast includes Mamukoya, Nilambur Ayisha and Akhila.‘Shalabham’ is produced by Azeez Kadalundi.
