The story revolves around the marriage between Mammootty (Prakash Barre), a Muslim and Karthy (Sharbani Mukherjee), a Nair girl. Karthy, who converts to Islam after marriage, longs for the culture and traditions of her original religion. Priyanandanan, who has bagged the national award for the best feature film award with his second venture ‘Pulijanmam’, adapts K.P. Ramanunni's acclaimed novel by the same name for ‘ Sufi Paranja Katha’. Sharbani Mukherjee, a cousin of Rani Mukherjee, Kajol and Tanisha, had earlier acted in Priyadarshan's ‘Rakkilipattu’. The film is set in the 19th and early 20th centuries. The cast includes Babu Antony, Innocent, Jagathy, Mullanezhi, Thambi Antony, Indrans, Mala Aravindan, Vineeth Kumar, Manikandan, Samvritha and Sona Nair. Mohan Sitara scores the music and KG Jayan cranks the camera. The film is produced by Prakash Barre himself.
