All the scenes are being shot in real locations.The film begins with a song that introduces the hero.The song was shot for six days in Kumbakonam Mahamaha temple tank during May.Kumbaknam temple, Thiruchi central bus stand, Thiruchi court, Kollidam iron bridge, Thiruvaiyaaru court, Cauvery bridge, Kumbakonam Nehru market are some of the places where the shooting was undertaken.
The climax fighting sequence was shot with five cameras.
Giraffe crane was brought from Hyderabad for climax.The sharp conversation between the hero and villain could turn out to be a trendsetter.Priyamani, who had won many accolades for her brilliant portrayal of a rural girl in ‘Paruththi Veeran’, is acting as a modern girl in the film.Ashish Vidyarthi, known as villain is acting in a different role in the film.A new villain is introduced in Malaikottai.
Devaraj, one of the leading heroes of Kannada film world is acting as villain.Ajay, the leading villain in Tollywood is acting as the younger brother of Devaraj.Urvasi and Nirosha are doing important roles.Mani Sharma, basking under the glory of ‘Pokkiri’ hit, is handling the music for this film.The five songs are believed to be quite different from each other.
‘Ey, Aatha, Aathorama Vaariyaa…’ the famous song by Ilayaraja in ‘Payanangal Mutivathillai’ is remixed in ‘Malaikottai’.T.Ajaykumar, who produced Vikram starrer ‘Dil’ and ‘Arul’, Vijay starrer ‘Youth’, Srikath starrer ‘Joot’, Jayam Ravi starrer ‘Unakkum Enakkum’, produces ‘Malaikottai’ with a big budget.
