‘Pazhani’ is a typical Perarasu movie combining equal doses of action, comedy, love and sentiment required for a commercial hit.  No wonder the title ‘Pazhani’ comes with an appropriate sub-title ‘Commercial Panchamirtham’! Bharath goes to jail after committing a murder when he is only in his early teens.  He gets a life term, serves it and comes out as a hardened youth.  Tracing his sister’s (Kushboo) house, he settles down there as her car-driver.  It’s not long before he courts trouble again! Kushboo’s husband Biju Menon, who has a mistress in Aishwarya, plots with the latter to kill his wife.

Bharath comes to know of his evil designs.  On the other hand, Kushboo becomes aware of the reason (murder) for Bharath’s life sentence in jail. The rest of the story solves riddles like whether Bharath manages to save Kushboo from Biju Menon’s murder attempts and whether Kushboo shows Bharath the door after getting to know the truth about him.  The plot has been woven in an interesting manner to sustain the viewers’ interest.  Adding to the plot is the brewing love affair between Bharath and newcomer Kajal Aggarwal.

Bharath, who is known to associate himself only with movies having a strong storyline, gets to portray the role of a commercial ‘hero’ for the first time and does a fairly good job of it.  Handling love and sentiment scenes with élan, Bharath goes for a complete image changeover and gets to deliver some funny ‘punch’ dialogues, littered liberally by Perarasu as he had done in his earlier movies!  Yet, he could have avoided some Vijay-like mannerisms he shows at times! Kushboo, yesteryears’ dream-girl and scarcely seen on screen nowadays, gets a meaty role and performs admirably.  Nothing much to say about newcomer Kajal Aggarwal: she does what’s expected of her miniscule role – dancing and providing glamour.A huge star cast includes Biju Menon, M.S.

Baskar, Raj Kapoor, Chitti Babu, Aishwarya, Ravi Mariya and ‘Yaar’ Kannan.  All of them have performed their respective roles sincerely and appreciably.  Perarasu, as has become his habit in his movies, does a cameo role as well! The film’s strong points are the dialogues by Ravi Mariya, cinematography by Vijay Milton and racy music by Srikanth Deva.  The background score by the latter, as in most of his movies, is very noisy and disturbing and could have been avoided.Director Perarasu, who helped Vijiy acquire the ‘action hero’ image through his films ‘Tirupachi’ and ‘Sivakasi’, has attempted the same tactics with Bharath and has met with reasonable success indeed.

‘Pazhani’ is a commercial treat for the youths!
