The neatly crafted film deals with sensitivity the plight of the weaving community in Kanchipuram and records the first rumblings of trade unionism in the temple city. Prakash Raj plays the lead role, that of Venkatam, a weaver. He dreams of weaving a fine silk sari for his beloved daughter when she grows up into a woman. The film was premiered in Toronto film festival and was well received there. The film's music has been scored by Priyadrshan's childhood buddy and noted singer, MG Sreekumar.
