Ram Gopal Varma (Sunil sharma) is the son of Bobbili Raja(Ranganath). He goes for a picnic where he falls in love with a poor girl (Prema). He gets married in the presence of tribal people and takes the girl to his home.Knowing that his son got married without his consent, Bobbili Raja suffers a paralytic stroke and is hospitalised. The wife of Bobbili Raja (Sangeetha) tells Prema that her arrival has brought misfortune to the family.

Then Prema decides to leave her husband’s house. When Varma comes home, his uncle (Vizag Prasad) lies to him that his bride ran away with some one.Varma believes that and continues to live as a bachelor. 16 years pass in silence. Then Pinky(Charmee), the daughter of Prema comes to Varma's village with a mission to reunite her seperated parents.

A journalist (Allari Naresh) is her friend in the mission. How she accomplishes her task is rest of the film. 'Sundarakanda' is completely out of the sync with the current times. The story, the narration and the language that the characters speak are archaic. Charmee, in the role of Pinky has done full justice to her role, but her character is uninteresting.

Prema as Charmee's mother doesn't look like a mother of an 18 year old girl.  Allari Naresh who portrays the journalist - who always rides on a bicycle with a camera on his shoulder  - is enough to show how old-fashioned the film is.Sunil sharma is just ok.S P Balasubramanyam's dubbing for him is very bold and too dramatic.  Kota srinivasa Rao is the only saving grace.

Music by Vidyasagar is good and the lyrical clarity is maintained very well.Cinematography by Raju is fine. Mullapudi Venkata Ramana's dialogues are just ok and not in pace with present trend and humor. The songs in the movie are ok. The movie is strictly only for those who are ardent lovers of Bapu's films.
