Indumathi, the latest in the recent crop of thriller movies loaded with suspense and scantily-clad damsels in distress is the directorial debut of ‘Andaru Dongale’ fame, Harsha Reddy. The film stars Sivaji, Shweta Bharadwaj, Vijay, Raghu Babu and Harshavardhan.
The film opens with the Managing Director of a company entrusting Rs.2 crores in cash to Honey (Shweta Bharadwaj) who has impressed him many times before and asks her to deposit the money in the bank. Meanwhile Honey and her fiancé Raj (Bharath Reddy) who have being trying to become financially secure before tying the knot are lured by the money and flee to Hyderabad and disappear without a trace. Around this time Rajesh, Banti, Kishore and Sheshi come to Hyderabad in search of jobs and along with Sheshi’s friend, Chandu (Sivaji) stay in a house owned by Anand (Harshavardhan). Soon the friends drop dead on by one and the suspense starts. What happens to Honey and Raj and how is their fate connected to those of the five friends? The plot slowly reveals itself.
Sivaji's great performance as the psychotic killer is the main attraction of the film while debutant, Shweta Bharadwaj has done her role with finesse. The comedy tracks doesn’t live up to the mark. Rajesh, Harshavardhan and Tulasi pull off their roles nicely. Anand provides a truly spine-chilling musical score while cinematographer Vasu’s skills only add to the tense atmosphere and the nail-biting suspense. Director Harsha Reddy has done a remarkably good job of creating an almost flawless suspense thriller worthy of probably being called one of the best examples of the genre in modern Telugu cinema.
