Sri Ramadasu
Directed by - K.Raghavendra Rao Produced by - Konda Krishnamraju Music by - MM Keeravani Casts - Nagarjuna, Sneha, ANR The team of Annamayya got back to recreate the life of Sri Ramadasu. The same team (except for the producer) worked for Annamayya too.Frankly there are some pitfalls with that film on how the life of Annamayya and even Saluva Narasimha Rayulu is portrayed.Few episodes are changed to make them more cinematic.Though the same is applied to Sri Ramadasu, the story is entirely different here.
For the first half-an-hour your expectations are downplayed. What follows from then on is your soul taken for a devotional sway.By the end of the film, one is bound to come out of the theater with the feeling of watching a great movie. The film is so convincing even for the parts that might have been modified, it leaves the audience with a spell binding experience.Kancherla Gopanna is played by Nagarjuna.
Gopanna is very obedient to his father played by Ranganath. He is in love with Kamala played by Sneha. Her father, done by Thanikella Bharani, wants to get her married to a tasildhar.Meanwhile, Lord Srirama tells Dammakka to take care of him on the Bhadradri hill.Dammakka conducts regular pooja.
Gopanna lands in Hasnabad as Tasildhar working for Taneesha (played by Nazar).Beaten up by the guys who envy his growth, Gopanna is saved by Dammakka. He sees the idols of Rama there and wants to construct a temple but is waiting for the permission from Taneesha. He gets the required instructions from Kabeer (ANR who played grandson of poet Kabir Das) in the form of Tarakamantram. What follows is the rest of the life of Sri Ramadasu.
The most touching part of the film is the conversation between Lord Rama and Ramadasu in the end.It brings tears to anyone. For Sri Ramadasu there is no happiness where there is no Ramanamam. This is shown in a great way.Nagarjuna lived in the role of Sri Ramadasu.
This can be considered a life time role.He did a great performance in expressing the spiritual feeling.Dasaradhi song shows the best of him.Sneha complemented Nagarjuna on screen. She did an outstanding job.
Bharavi and K.Raghavendra Rao should be applauded for this script.Though there are some deviations from actual story, they presented the film in best possible way to reach to the audience. Also, dialogs are pretty good.Every frame shows the attention paid for minute details.
The situations created for Ramadasu Keertanas are really impressive. The way lord Rama coming to earth before the interval period is extraordinary.Keeravani's re-recording is very good. The keertanas that come towards the climax elevate the spiritual mood of the audience.Hailessa song one of the best pictured songs in the film.
Be it the composition or voices.Dasaradhi, Yento Ruchi, Antha Ramamayam are super.Bhaskara Raja, art director, did a fantastic job with the Badhrachalam sets.Editing by Srikar Prasad is good.Cinematography by Gopal Reddy is excellent.
Production values are rich.Overall, the first 20 minutes of the film goes at introductory pace. What follows next is magic. This film leaves such a mark that Sri Ramadasu will be seen in the form of Nagarjuna like how NTR is seen for Lord Rama, Krishna etc.Kudos to the team for making such a great film.
