Confessions of Darshan: It’s all my falt
It has been nearly two years since Darshan gave a blockbuster. The last two years were pretty dull for him as nearly seven of his films failed at the box-office very badly. Now Darshan has bounced back with a super hit Gaja.Darshan spoke to Filmy South recently about his hits, flops, career etc.
Q.How does it feels to be back as a superstar?
A.The past two years were like a hell to me.None of my films did well at box-office.I didn't have a proper space to breathe.Gaja really gave a fresh lease of life to me. I accept that it’s my fault in accepting such films, but still the directors didn't keep up theirwords. The final copy of every film was completely different from what they had told me in the beginning.I was really lost when they narrated the story to me.But I was shocked to see the final output. Now I don't want to blame anybody or everybody for my loss.I take the entire blame on me.
Q.What was the reaction of the industry people during those days?
A.The industry and the producers stood by me during the crucial hour of need.Though I gave successive flops for nearly two years, there were producers who helped me.I was never short of films.I always had a handful of films.
Q.What precautions have you taken to avoid such sort of films?
A.After Bhupathi, I have made it a habit to see my films during the post-production level itself.I saw Bhupathi only a day before its release.I couldn't change anything during that time as the film had to be released the next day.I have learnt a major lesson from that. After doing every film, I ask the director to bring an edited version of the film.I chop off unnecessary scenes.
I even tell the producers not to do publicity unless I give my nod.I tell them to be ready for re-shooting.Unless I am convinced that the film can be released, I don't tell the producers to release them.I don’t do this just as only for my career. It is the question of so many people whose career too has been involved in each and every film.If a film is good, they too get a good name along with me.
Q.You have been changing your getups for almost every film during recent years.
A.I change according to the trends.I grew a long hair for a couple of films because the trend was like that during those days. Now everybody is into short hair. So, I have changed my style for my upcoming film 'Navagraha'.After a couple of films, I will again change to whatever trend that would exist during that time.
Q.You were famous for your guest appearances in some films.Any new films where you are appearing in a guest role?
A.No, not at all. No guest appearances for me now.If a story really requires me, then only I would do it.
