No kissing on Screen: Sneha

Sneha needs no introduction.The homely girl next door, Sneha has touched the hearts of many with her roles in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam movies.Sneha was in town recently for the shooting of the Ravichandran starrer 'Ravishastri'.Her first movie in Kannada.Southern Spice chatted with her at the Abbai Naidu studio during the last day of the shooting.It has been a long time since we have been waiting for you to work in Kannada movies.

Are you glad you could make it this time?

I had always wanted to act in a Kannada movie.I have acted in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam.36 films in total.Acting in a Kannada movie was something which never happened till now.

Despite getting offers, I just could not find time to do any till now.This movie, 'Ravishastri', I hope will be a super hit.And I m glad that I got the chance to act with a super star like Ravichandran in my first Kannada movie.

You are cast as a girl next door for almost all your movies…are you too traditional?

Basically I am from an orthodox family.My family doesn't like me to wear skimpy dresses and dance along.My father even didn't like the idea of me joining films.When I got a chance from Malayalam for 'Ingenna Urute Paksha', my father asked me whether I really liked to act in films.I always wanted to act.So, I took up the film.But it was a super-duper flop there.

Don't you want to try other kind of roles?

I definitely want to try all kinds of roles but I have some rules and tastes, which I don't want to break.In most of the films that I have worked, I have portrayed a homely girl character.I want to change the mould.I want to work my age.I want to show that I can do any role.

But that doesn't mean I can and will do anything for a role.I don't mind wearing costumes like skirts and sleeveless.But I won't wear anything that is above the knees.I even don't like kissing scenes.That's why I don't accept all the roles that come my way.

Though 'Partibhan Kanavu' was a big hit, I didn't get offers for the next six months.I won't mind sitting idle but I won't wear skimpy dresses.

Are you happy with the roles that you have got till now?

I cannot say I am satisfied.If an artiste gets satisfied with the roles there won't be any interest in future roles.Till now I am happy about whatever I have done.

But still when I look back at my films once, I feel that I could have done a little better.So, I do not think about what has already happened.Instead I keep my energy, confidence and heart high in every role I enact.After working for four decades even the veteran Shivaji Ganeshan said he was not satisfied with his performance.

It seems you have got an offer from Hindi film industry?

Yes, I have definitely got an offer from Hindi.I will be acting in a Hindi film next year.

What would you have been if not an actress?

I would have been a psychiatrist.I have finished my degree in Psychology.I never was the best student, but was a good student.With a little practice, I would have easily been a psychiatrist.
