Sandalwood stalemate ends

The row between Kannada film producers and exhibitors have come to an end, as the exhibitors have unanimously decided to accept the percentage system as soon as possible.

The Kannada Film Producers Association had threatened to stop film releases as well as the production activities from January 01 2010, if the exhibitors (theatre owners) don’t switch over to the percentage system from the existing rental system for film exhibition as the producers found it hard to get back their money in the current circumstances.

So, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce held a meeting on Monday with the exhibitors under the chairmanship of its president Dr. Jayamala. The exhibitors have said to have unanimously decided to switch over to the percentage system in the three-hour long meeting.

"The exhibitors have decided to switch over to the percentage system in the interest of Kannada Film Industry. They have decided to constitute a committee in a week's time to decide about the sharing of the percentage system to be followed in the different centres of the city. The committee will have distributors, exhibitors, producers and the office bearers of the KFCC as its members and the meeting will be held in a week's time," said Dr. Jayamala after the meeting.

K C N Chandrashekhar, president of the Kannada Film Producers Association, has welcomed this decision and said that the Association will hold a meeting with the recently set up core committee to decide about the percentage sharing system in a few days.
