Director Shivamani has delivered on his promise. His 'Josh' is quite different from his previous efforts, though one may find the film to be a little old for his taste. Before the release of the film, Shivamani had promised that this film would be different from what he had been doing for the past 18 years.

'Josh' is not at all the story of an individual but of today's youth. It reflects the confusions and frustrations faced by today's teenagers. The film concludes with the message that youth must not waste their precious time in love, they should concentrate on studies and achieve something big in life.

The film can be recent films such as 'PUC', 'Jolly Days' and 'Moggina Manassu' which render a similar message. The highlights of the technically good film include Santosh Rai Pathaje's camerawork and Vardhan's music.

As usual with Shivamani films, the screenplay is weak. The first half of the film has been wasted with some silly comedy. The second half is engaging, particularly the climax.

Shivamani has introduced a bunch of newcomers in this film. Most of them have given competent performances and Rakesh is the best among them. Supporting artistes like Achyutha, Sudha Belawadi, Tulsi Shivamani, Shivaji Rao Jadhav, and Srinivasa Prabhu provide adequate support.
