'Bhagyadevatha'
Genre - Drama Directed by - Sathyan Anthikkad Produced by - M M Hamsa Music by - Ilayaraja Casts - Narain, K P A C Lalitha, Innocent, Mamukkoya Starring - Jayaram, Kanika Subramaniam The Sathyan Anthikkad-Jayaram combo is back with a film that pulls at the heart-strings of the viewer. 'Bhagyadevatha' has Sathyan telling a simple story in the simplest manner possible. He extols the virtues of village life without being preachy. The film, shot in the picturesque locales of Kuttanadau, is about lower-middleclass cable television operator Benny (Jayaram). Saddled with many a financial burden, he finds an easy escape route: marrying a rich girl for a fat dowry. Benny marries Daisy (Kaniha) and there starts his troubles. In the role of Benny, Jayaram is at his natural best. He reminds one of a few roles he did with aplomb--Roy in 'Veendum Chila Veettu Karyangal' and Reji of 'Manassinakkare'. As Benny's mother, KPAC Lalitha comes up with a seasoned performance. Narain does a cameo in the film. All the actors in the cast, including Innocent, Nedumudi Venu and Mamukkoya have done their parts well. In fact, the perfect casting is the biggest plus point of the film. After '2 Harihar Nagar', cinematographer Venu scores another winner in this film and Ilaiyaraja's music is just beautiful. Sathyan has delivered yet another family superhit, it seems.
