The much awaited ‘Aegan’ is now out. So is the hype and suspense associated with the film. Though there are no major releases to compete with it this Deepavali, it seems, it will need nothing short of a miracle to keep ‘Aegan’ afloat at the box-office!

Ajit plays an honest and upright police officer in ‘Aegan’. Ajit is on a mission to destroy a wily don (Suman) and bring to an end the rein of terror let loose by the latter. Devan, an important link in Suman’s scheme of things, surrenders to the police and later turns approver. Fearing a vengeful Suman, Devan goes underground.

Ajit lands in Ooty as an undercover agent and meets Pia, Devan’s daughter. Ajit saves Pia’s life on more than one occasion from Devan’s enemies. Navdeep (of ‘Arindhum Ariyamalum’ fame) plays Ajit’s younger brother who falls in love with Pia.

Finally, Ajit manages to trace Devan and to nail Suman. But it’s highly doubtful whether the viewers would have that kind of patience to remain in the halls to watch the climax.

Ajit looks as if it’s a sequel to his last year’s super-duper hit ‘Billa’. Ajit makes a herculean effort to prop up this film with his dancing, singing and acting (sometimes!) skills. The stunt-sequences, in the ‘Matrix’ style, appear comic most of the time. The film might turn out to be a non-starter: Ajit is best advised to select a script that has some scope to showcase his acting potential.

Nayantara appears to be on a real-life mission: to reduce the size of her cloths and to look outlandishly glamourous! She continues to thrill her ever-increasing number of fans with a liberal skin-show.

Jayaram and Sathyan try a lot to infuse some interest in the proceedings with their comedy. An actor as talented as Jayaram surely deserves better roles. Others who have been wasted in the film are Nasser, Suhasini and Haneefa.

Yuvan Shankar Raja’s music does help in sustaining viewers’ interest in the movie: One or two of the half-a-dozen numbers are beautiful. Arjun Jena’s cinematography is top-class.

Raju Sundaram falls flat in his first directorial venture. At the end of the film, it is shown that ‘Aegan’s Mission Continues’. God forbid, let’s hope there won’t be a sequel to this!
