Riveting suspense!
Directed by - Shaji Kailas Produced by - Karumari Kandasamy, J. Durai Music by - Vidyasagar Casts - Vadivelu, Raghuvaran, Nasser, Manivannan, Visu, Vijayakumar, Roja, Suganya, Manoj K Jayan, Sonia, Manasi, Vadivelu, Sangili Murugan, Thalai vaasal Vijay, Ashish Vidyarthy Starring - RK, Bhama The film is a remake of the hit Malayalam movie, ‘Chintamany Kola Case’, which had Suresh Gopi as the hero. The director, Shaji Kailas, makes sure that the suspense-thriller keeps the audience on tenterhooks till the very end.
R.K., the chairman and founder of ‘V-Can Network’, plays a hero for the first time, as the ruthless lawyer LK. He uses his matchless abilities to save hardened criminals from the long arm of the law. But, the victorious criminals are found murdered later, and the police is perplexed.
One fine day, the murder of Chintamani is brought to him to be taken up. An innocent village girl Chintamani (newcomer Bhama) gets admission in a medical college, and is murdered a few weeks later. The police suspect that Bhama was a victim to the ragging by a few rich girls in the college hostel.
LK manages to absolve the rich girls of the charges levelled against them in connection with the murder of Chintamani. Then comes a turn in the script that catches the viewers off guard.
Commercial cinema has always justified the brutal killings of anti-social elements on the assumption that ‘Truth should always triumph’. The same formula is followed in this film too, making the viewers yawn. The saving grace of the movie is the way the murder trial is picturised, especially the court proceedings.
RK has miles to go before making a name for himself as an actor to reckon with. Newcomer Bhama looks beautiful and does a neat job in her brief role. Manivannan excels as usual with his characteristic flair. Stars including Nasser, Ashish Vidyarthi, Manoj K. Jeyan, Visu, and Sukanya have done their roles admirably. ‘Mirchi Girls’ provide the glamour quotient.
The late Raghuvaran, in his last film, makes his presence felt in a small role. Vadivelu’s role of ‘Vandu’ Murugan elicits a few laughs.
Background music and cinematography are the twin pillars which may prop up the film at the box-office for a brief period.
Shaji Kailas has successfully driven home the message that if the story is without any loopholes and strong, one doesn’t always need to bank upon star power to make a film successful.
