To classify Ilangannan’s ‘Kadhalna Summa Illai’ is no small task. For, the Tamil film at once is a dubbed version of the Telugu hit ‘Gamyam’ as well as a remake! A major portion of the original, featuring Sarvanand and Kamalini Mukherjee has been retained whereas scenes involving Allari Naresh have been reshot with Ravi Krishna. The result is not at all bad. The film looks Tamil cent per cent. A curious experiment indeed!

The story revolves around Abhiram (Sarvananth), the son of a millionaire (Nasser), a happy-go-lucky youth. His father, exasperated at his wayward ways, leaves for a long tour, in the hope that Abhiram would mend his ways and take care of the company. But Abhiram is not one to change so easily. In the course of his wanderings, he meets a young doctor Janaki (Kamalinee Mukherjee), who is passionate about serving the downtrodden, and falls in love with her.

But, later she leaves him due to clash of attitudes. Abhiram embarks on a long journey, on his expensive bike, in search of Janaki.

What happens in the course of this journey forms the rest of the plot. A petty thief, Vetrivel (Ravikrishna) joins Abhiram in his journey.

Vetrivel’s aim is to scoot away with Abhiram’s bike and is waiting for the right opportunity.

The journey turns out to be an eye opener for Abhiram and helps him discover himself.

Both Sarvanand and Ravikrishna are quite competent and have delivered flawless performances. Ravikrishna steals the show in some sequences. The talkative and bubbly Ravi acts as a good foil to the silent and efficient Sarvanand.

Nasser, Tejashree (in an ‘item’ number with Ravikrishna), M.S.Bhaskar, Ganja Karuppu, Ilavarasu and Chittibabu play their respective parts well.

The music scored by Vidyasagar, Mani Sharma and E.V.S. Murthy, is peppy and youthful. Cinematography by Vincent adds to the mood of the film and is quite nice.

Ilangannan, who directed Arjun starrer ‘Ottran’ a few years ago, returns to action with ‘Kadhalna Summa Illai’ and does it in style.
